Harold Schechter

Harold Schechter is een Amerikaanse non-fictieschrijver, historicus en hoogleraar psychologie die vooral bekend staat om zijn boeken over seriemoordenaars en andere macabere onderwerpen.

Biografie:

• Geboren op 28 december 1963 in Brooklyn, New York
• Studeerde psychologie aan de State University of New York in Buffalo
• Promoveerde in klinische psychologie aan de Adelphi University
• Werkte als psycholoog in een psychiatrisch ziekenhuis

Carrière:

Schechter begon begin jaren 1990 met het schrijven van boeken over seriemoordenaars. Zijn eerste boek, “Deranged: The Shocking True Story of America’s Most Fiendish Killer David Berkowitz, The Son of Sam”, werd in 1990 gepubliceerd. Sindsdien heeft hij tientallen boeken geschreven over onderwerpen als:

• Seriemoordenaars (Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Kemper)
• Massamoordenaars (Charles Whitman, Adam Lanza)
• Cannibalisme (Albert Fish)
• Vampire Legends (Dracula)

Academische loopbaan:

Schechter is momenteel Distinguished Professor of American Studies and Popular Culture aan het Queens College, City University of New York.
